After a “40-day battle,” today ends the Fig campaign for Deadly Premonition creator  Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro’s title The Good Life, a “debt repayment life simulation RPG,” in which a small town’s inhabitants transform into cats at night. Though tantalizing, the mysterious game only raised 35% of its $1.5 million goal, which might spell death for some developers. However, Swery isn’t giving up, and has released a statement outlining the future of The Good Life: Kickstarter.

In his release, Swery blames a variety of factors for the campaign’s failure, including misleading concept art leaks and confusing backer rewards. He also points to a lack of PR for the “powerful tag team” of game developers involved in The Good Life, and missteps in conveying what the game actually is. At the end, he addresses his plans for the game: to bring The Good Life to Kickstarter by the end of 2017 with clearer information, a bigger PR push, and a lower goal facilitated by the involvement of “some great partners.”

All in all, it’s exciting to see such a unique project get a second chance. Although some might be wary of Kickstarter in a post Mighty No. 9 world, it’s likely still the best way to bring Swery’s singular vision into the world. Here’s hoping we still get a taste of The Good Life after all.
