Last year, Sony said that they were rethinking working with Spotify after Taylor Swift pulled her music from the service. Apparently they’re done thinking, as Sony announced earlier today that they’re bringing the widespread service to PS3, PS4, and Xperia smartphones and tablets. Called “PlayStation Music”, it will allow users to link their Spotify and PlayStation Network accounts, letting them stream jammin’ tunes available on Spotify while they game. Launching in 41 different markets, it will allow access to the entirety of Spotify’s library of over 30 million songs.
The introduction of this service will mark the end of Sony’s “Music Unlimited” service. Allowing for music streaming in 19 countries, it will be closing on March 29th of this year. 30 days of free access to PlayStation Music and a Spotify Premium free trial will be offered to active Music Unlimited subscribers. Sister service Video Unlimited will remain open, but is being redubbed PlayStation Video for brand consistency.
