Nintendo’s newest console is full of mysteries, but an answer to one of the biggest may have just arrived.
According to multiple sources, a few retailers accidentally assigned a price to the Nintendo Switch. Now, this on its own wouldn’t be that surprising: retailers have assigned temporary pricing to plenty of games and consoles before they’ve gone up. What sets these mix-ups apart is that they all happened to take place on the same day, as well as for the same price: $250 in the United States, $330 in Canada, and £200 in the UK.
This pricing would set the Switch at the same price point as the Wii, Nintendo’s last big market success, so it would make sense for them to try chasing that market point again. On the other hand, considering the level of tech rumored to be inside of the Switch, this would price it around $50 less than the Wii U, which is an even larger difference when you take into account outside elements like inflation.
If the Switch ends up costing around $250, it could be a big win for Nintendo. A console with a portability feature priced significantly less than its competitors would be a pretty good sell to anyone still on the fence.
The Nintendo Switch is slated for release in Spring 2017.
