Stop us if you saw this one coming, but following years of delays, controversies and a development cycle that makes Duke Nukem Forever’s look harmonious, Mighty No. 9 has finally released – sorta – and it’s a complete dumpster fire.
Murphy’s Law posits that if something can go wrong, then it will – and with Comcept royally bungling Mighty’s release, that certainly seems to be the case here. Backers owed keys for the Xbox 360, Linux, and Mac versions of the game have been greeted with the news of further delays, though Comcept have claimed the game has already been resubmitted to Deep Silver and Microsoft for further evaluation on their official blog.
Similarly, users on other platforms are also experiencing issues, with claims that the game has bricked multiple Wii U systems. DLC has also been claimed to break the game, while multiple users on PS4 have reported that their game codes simply do not work. Graphical glitches also appear to be apparent for a small number of users.
Making things even worse, game creator Keiji Inafune appears to have put his foot in his mouth on a pre-release livestream this morning, stating that “We can hope that if things go well, there’ll be sequels. Because I’ll tell you what, I’m not getting my 2D side-scrolling fill. And at the end of the day, even if it’s not perfect, it’s better than nothing. At least, that’s my opinion.” although there does seem to be some confusion as to whether Infaune-san was simply misquoted by his translator.
You know things are bad when even Sonic the fucking Hedgehog is dunking on you.
We’ve reached out to publisher Deep Silver for further comment, and will update the story as we hear back.
