If you’ve sat down to play Monopoly with a group of friends or family and silently thought to yourself, “I do wish this game was more complicated and included characters from my favorite Japanese RPGs,” then you’re in luck.
Itadaki Street, known as Fortune Street in the US, will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest with a new entry. The game, simply called Itadaki Street: Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary, will play like previous entries where players roll dice to move around a game board, buy shops, collect pay packets, buy stock, and generally do their best to emulate Gordon Gekko.
The special thing about this entry is it will feature characters from both franchises as playable characters and a museum section where you can purchase, using money earned in-game, scenes from the respective games. The characters will also be voiced, will interact with one another, and will comment on the scenes you watch in the museum. The game is coming out for the PS4 and PS Vita later this year in Japan, but there’s no word on any possible US release. The last entry did get a US release, as did a mobile version, so I will keep my fingers crossed this one does too. If not I can thank the current generation of consoles for not region locking their games.
It is also significant to note that these games have also been released on Nintendo consoles in the past, usually with Nintendo characters alongside Dragon Quest. Maybe if this Itadaki Street doesn’t make it here I can hold out hope for a Nintendo one to.
