Today, speaking exclusively to IGN, Microsoft confirmed the existence of Forza Horizon 2: a follow up to 2012’s fantastic open-world driving game. Instead of taking place in Colorado, Horizon 2 will follow the eponymous Horizon Music Festival to Southern Europe.

The game will be released on both current-gen and last-gen systems, with Playground Games (the team behind the first game) developing the Xbox One version and Sumo Digital handling Xbox 360 port duties. Playground will be building off Forza 5′s engine and Sumo Digital will be using the original Horizon engine.

In terms of new gameplay systems, Forza Horizon 2 will have a weather system and an “adapted” version of the ‘Driveatars’ from Forza 5. The game will also feature music in a big way, which is an excellent sign. The licensed soundtrack in the first Horizon was key to the atmosphere cultivated by the game’s (tolerable) version of Coachella.

Forza Horizon 2 is set for a simultaneous Xbox One/Xbox 360 release this fall.
