It’s less than three weeks after Elder Scrolls Online launched on PS4 and XBox One, and the game’s creative director, Paul Sage, is calling it quits. Zenimax confirmed Sage’s departure earlier today via the official Elder Scrolls Online forum, with the following post:

We can confirm that Paul left ZOS after the launch of ESOTU on console. He, along with rest of the team, are very happy with how the game is doing and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. ESOTU continues to be in great hands with Game Director, Matt Firor and new Creative Director, Rich Lambert, overseeing development. Previously, Rich oversaw all content in the game as Lead Content Designer and worked on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. We’re very excited to have him take on the role as Creative Director!

Sage appears to now be working for Gearbox on an unknown project, and with Gearbox both currently hiring people to work on Borderlands 3 and gearing up to release mmofps Battleborn later this year there are a number of possible games he could be involved in. The man has a lot of previous experience, having worked on numerous mmos in the past including the legendary Ultima Online.

Hopefully this sudden change won’t negatively impact the game so soon after getting ported to consoles, but Sage isn’t the first member of the project to leave for another company, with lead gameplay designer Nicholas Konkle having left in April to join Riot Games, developer of League of Legends.
