Ikaruga, a scrolling shooter many consider a bonafide classic, was recently rated for release on PS4 by the German USK ratings board. It will be published by its original developer, Treasure.

This release seems to be a full remaster of some sort, as Ikaruga never appeared on any previous Sony platform, which rules out the PS2/PS4 option. The game came out in Japanese arcades in 2001, followed by Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox 360, and finally a PC port.

For those unaware, Ikaruga is considered revolutionary for sometimes requiring the player to get hit. Instead of dodging every bullet, the player swaps your ship’s colors between white and black, matching the color of the bullets you can absorb instead of taking damage.

No word on when the game will release, pricing, or much of anything, but re-releases of games for historical posterity is always welcome.
