Fighting games are of two minds lately, they’re either incredibly complex to bring in hardcore players, or simplified to entice the average consumer to pick up the game on a whim. Games like Rising Thunder (RIP) were laser-focused on the latter, and now another title wants to grab that spot: Fantasy Strike.

Developed by David Sirlin, one of the head honchos of the Street Fighter 2 HD Remix release, Fantasy Strike is attempting to boil fighting games to its absolute essence in an attempt to both ease newcomers into fighting games and unite the fighting game community as a whole around a simple game they can all mess around with.

The game only uses five buttons: Attack, jump, two special moves, and your super. Movement is kept to back and forth, so there’s no crouching.

Fantasy Strike is currently asking for $500,000 on Fig, and includes an investment option, so if you think this game will make dosh, you have the ability to see a return. So far, in its pre-alpha state, Fantasy Strike seems a bit bland and janky, but hopefully with some work, it’ll come out sharper, smarter, and fun like other simple fighters like Divekick.
