Rising Thunder was an experiment in fighting game controls, in beta for some time now. Its developer, Radiant Entertainment, employed many top name fighting game players to craft a unique game that newcomers could easily pick up. Many people were wondering when the game would come out of beta, and the answer now is “never.” Radiant has been bought by Riot Games, creators of the hit game League of Legends, and has ceased development on Rising Thunder.
Radiant announced their aquisition earlier today with the following.
We are delighted to announce that Radiant Entertainment has been acquired by Riot Games. At Riot, our developers will continue their mission of building incredible games that speak to us personally as players.
Radiant went on to point out that Stonehearth, a game that looks eerily like a certain Mineycrafty game out there, will continue to be developed. Rising Thunder, on the other hand…
As for Rising Thunder, the team will start work on a new game that we’re incredibly excited about. We wish we could say more now, but rest assured you’ll hear more when the time is right. For now, we will be permanently closing Rising Thunder on March 18th. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Alpha!
If you have Rising Thunder already, you can play until the 18th. I wouldn’t be surprised if a League of Legends fighting game didn’t pop up in the near future with Rising Thunder’s basic control scheme. It’s a bummer that a new fighting franchise couldn’t properly develop, but at least this wasn’t a studio closure!
