In a deal that makes so much sense, when you see the headline you say out loud “Well of course they would,” Paradox, the developer and publisher behind Crusader Kings and Cities: Skylines, has purchased Triumph Studios who makes Age of Wonders and Overlord.  Age of Wonders especially fits perfectly into Paradox’s wonderful collection of grand strategy games and won’t hurt getting a boost from a new publisher. Paradox will publish all current projects Triumph is making and the development team at Triumph will stay in place.

Both company statements treat this less like a business transaction and more like the cultural move that happens to be good business. Paradox has been laser focused on releasing complex and dense strategy games and Triumph certainly doesn’t shy away from grand RPG titles either, so this match is pretty close to perfect. No word on what’s next for either company, or what their first title together will be, but I’m sure we’ll know soon enough.
