After a leak published by Destructoid, Activision has come clean about the next game in the Call of Duty franchise. Titled Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and developed by Sledgehammer Games (a new studio from the Dead Space people), the game is set in some kind of future (but not the Black Ops 2 future) and deals with Kevin Spacey heading up a Private Military Corporation.

Look, this is a videogame trailer. It exists to look cool and give players a taste of the plot, but the official press release has some info on what the game’s story is all about.

“Set in the year 2054, a private military corporation (PMC) has emerged with the power to rescue humanity from a devastated world struggling to rebuild after a global attack on its military and infrastructure. You are the advanced soldier. Empowered with new, cutting-edge exoskeleton abilities, technological advancements and high-tech gear, players join the ranks of a highly-trained, specialized unit committed to restoring order in a state of advanced warfare.”

I just love “You are the advanced soldier.” That’s great. Based on the monologue in the trailer, I would not be surprised to see the player character and a group of rag-tag goodies turn on Spacey’s Jonathan Irons once they realize he’s only doing it for the power.

The game is also being developed “specifically for next gen consoles and PC,” with no word on who’s been assigned to the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U ports…or even if the game will receive a port at all. I will most likely play this.

Anybody else get an Elysium vibe from those suits?
