According to a letter on the Xbox website, Microsoft will allow cross network play between Xbox One, PC, and “other consoles”.

Rocket League will be the first game to allow this, as stated in the letter. The game already allows for crossplay between PC and Xbox One, as well as PS4 and PC, but Microsoft has now allowed the opportunity for the loop to be closed, letting players from all three compete against each other.

“Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players.” Chris Charla, Director of ID@ Xbox notes. Psyonix would have to do the work themselves to figure this out, but now that Microsoft will let this happen, perhaps it won’t be long until every console plays with their rivals nicely.
