If you’ve been following the news lately, it probably wouldn’t surprise you to learn that Microsoft is planning to reveal a Gears of War game at E3. A series of leaks have surfaced lately hinting at a remastering coming to the Xbox One, but still, it’s nice to have some harder evidence. Late last night links appeared leading to an Xbox DVR (a site where users can automatically upload their game recordings from their Xbox Ones) showing video of a remastered Gears of War.
The video showed the player in a multiplayer setting testing out weapons and throwing grenades, and an alleged beta tester confirmed the title of Gears of Wars: Ultimate, which is in line with a Brazilian ratings board leak calling it “Ultimate Edition”.
Combine this footage with job listings, leaked stills from online tests, and art leaks, and it all seems kind of obvious. I’m not shocked to learn Gears is moving onto newer consoles but I wish the few years since the Xbox One’s launch were spent creating a new title in the franchise, not a remaster. I have enjoyed some of the Gears of War games in the past, especially Gears of War 3, but I don’t know if I want to spend another $60 to “relive the magic”. I’m tired of encouraging these remasters and remakes when what I really want is something new and refreshing.
