The 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider converted an old school platformer that once ruled the 90s into a modern video game. With Rise of the Tomb Raider, the upcoming sequel to 2013’s game, will try to expand the gameplay with a focus on the open world environment according to Brian Horton, the game’s new director. We’ve already seen a fair share of screens showing Lara Croft in a snow covered Russia, but Horton also teases another Oasis environment with warmer temperatures. Horton, in a Game Informer interview, revealed other details about the fall targeted release:

The snow effects in the game will be realistic and cause environmental hazards like avalanches and ice walls.

There will be a weather system in the game as well as a day/night cycle.

Hunting is still in the game with some animals only coming out at night and/or day. Animals will leave tracks making the hunting more authentic.

There will be multiple bows each with their own upgrades.

I still haven’t played a second of the remade Tomb Raider but I plan on going back and getting through it before the new one launches. Having a strong female lead in a well built open world environment sounds perfect for me. Hunting isn’t usually something I get excited over in a video game but tracking an animal through freshly fallen snow sounds pretty interesting.
