Today, Disney Interactive revealed Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes to a crowd of fans, invitees, and press in Hollywood, CA. The game is part of the ‘Disney Infinity 2.0‘ initiative, and will feature characters and concepts from Marvel Comics, in addition to a story by Ultimate Spider-Man creator Brian Michael Bendis. The first wave of confirmed heroes include Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, with “over a dozen” more figures to be revealed.

The starter pack for Marvel Super Heroes includes Captain America, Thor, and Black Widow figures, in addition to a Manhattan play set. It will launch “this fall” for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, PC, and iOS. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch alongside last-gen versions. Disney also confirmed that all existing Disney Infinity merchandise would be forwards compatible with Marvel Super Heroes and the rest of 2.0, including the base that came with the original game. Your Toy Box creations will also be accessible from any 2.0 game.

Numerous changes have been made to the Infinity formula, including Toy Box improvements. The user-generated content hub now has a ‘brush’ feature that allows players to procedurally generate pieces a world instead of building it from the ground up. AI helpers called “builders” have also been added to help fill in the blanks of your Toy Box-created world. Disney Interactive is also hiring members of the Infinity community to make featured content in Toy Box. Building interiors are new to Toy Box as well. Players can now edit the inside of buildings as well, separated from the rest of the world by a loading screen.

The new Marvel-themed Power Discs include costume changes — like a Mark 42 suit for Iron Man — or sidekick characters (like Winter Soldier or the Iron Patriot) that will join in on a brawl and help your character out.

A Disney rep told us that Disney Infinity 2.0 would include more than just Marvel. “We will announce new Disney characters and content in the coming months. It’s just that today we’re focused on Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes and The Avengers Play Set.” There is currently no word on whether Marvel Super Heroes will be available as a stand-alone game for players who own the original base.

Also, MODOK is in the game.
