When it was announced Rise of the Tomb Raider was “exclusive” to the Xbox. Now we know why Microsoft was so cagey about their language so long ago. Rise of the Tomb Raider will be coming out for PS4 a year after the Xbox release, in winter of 2016. PC players won’t have to wait as long and will get their release in early 2016. Not a surprise to see a PC release a few months after the initial release but to wait nearly a year to play a “new” release seems extreme.

Seems crazy that a once Playstation exclusive franchise is now an Xbox exclusive for an entire year. And it would have been nice for console buyers to know about this delay when the game was originally announced and not have to wait so long. Exclusives are what sway most purchases of hardware and to keep release information like this secret seems shrewd. I’m also hoping the year long delay doesn’t hurt the game’s sale too much. A lot can happen in a year and I imagine only the most ardent of Tomb Raider fans will avoid spoilers and discussions for a year. Let’s hope timed exclusives that are this long continue to be rare and strange like this one.
