According to a Batman: Arkham Origins community manager, WB Montreal currently has “no plans” to release a final patch for the game. In an Arkham Origins forum thread entitled “Re: Patch 1.06, is it even a possibility?” regarding the current state of the game and the possibility of a future patch, a CM going by the username ‘Mercury’ had this to say:

The team is currently working hard on the upcoming story DLC and there currently are no plans for releasing another patch to address the issues that have been reported on the forums.

If we do move forward with creating a new patch, it will try to address the progression blocking bugs for players, not the minor glitches that do not prevent one from continuing to play. The issues that are not progression blockers will unfortunately no longer be addressed.

So, if WB Montreal does get around to releasing another patch, it will only address major glitches. This comment was, understandably, followed by 2 pages of expletive-laden fury on the part of the game’s fans. At the moment, WB Montreal has not addressed the situation, but I would be amazed if we even get a half-hearted apology.

When the reviews for Arkham Origins hit, it was hard to find a review that didn’t mention some kind of game-breaking bug. Former Destructoid Reviews Editor Jim Sterling called the game “littered with glitches,” and gave the game a final score of 3.5 out of 10.

“I  had the game crash on me twice in a row while fast traveling, and I encountered a number of physics bugs that saw enemies become almost untouchable or completely disappear. At one point, I needed to restart a checkpoint because a character I needed to interrogate couldn’t be interacted with.”

Philip Kollar of Polygon also found the game’s technical aspects lacking. In Kollar’s first review update — where he dropped the game’s score from a 7 out of 10 to a 4 out of 10 — he described his experiences with Arkham Origins’ many bugs.

“In the five or so hours I’ve put into the game since that patch, I’ve had around half a dozen crashes, including some cases where the game would not even load to the main menu following a crash.”

According to Kollar, the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions were broken, but the Wii U version was relatively unscathed. This is amusing, considering this news follows the announcement that Arkham Origins‘ season pass had been pulled from the Wii U.

You know, say what you will about EA and Battlefield 4 actively being on fire, but over there, all hands are currently working on fixing that game. Arkham Origins may not be quite as important or as broken, but this is still a resounding slap in the face to the consumer.

  1. It’s odd, I played 27 hours of that game on Steam and finished the story, and the game never crashed or broke on me. In fact I don’t really remember even running into any of the minor glitches that most people encountered (floating enemies and the like). I guess I must have gotten really lucky, looking through this.

    1. Yeah, I’ve not heard many positive things about the state of Arkham Origins. Positive experiences seem to be the outlier.

      1. It’s a real shame, because the content is pretty good. Sucks that it seems to have been fraught with issues for the majority of people who tried it.

Not showing any interest in fixing it just goes to show what WB thought of this game though – a knockoff money-grab that they could make in a short time with a spare dev team. The fact that the people working on the game turned out something worthy of at least caring about enough to fix these issues doesn’t seem to matter to them. Ah well.
