In reply to YourAverageMovieGoer.

Thanks for your comment! My main takeaway I wanted to leave with my review is that I did not even find the film enjoyable standing on its own, with or without the shadow of its source material. I have mentioned, for instance, the Super Mario Bros. movie as being something I enjoyed in spite of others feeling it did a disservice to the related Mario Bros. games — that personally was not an issue to me. To also counter your point that works such as this should stand on its own, this movie was specifically marketed around the video game, such including a downloadable tie-in that features the leading actress in the latest title of the games at that point in time. This movie was purposefully not seeking to stand on its own and therefore these comparisons to its source material are necessary. I am a little unsure as to what the rest of your comment is discussing and seems to be completely detached from Monster Hunter at this point.

But I do hope to impart with you that negative reviews are necessary in criticism whether or not someone chooses to agree with them and is not a product of "cancel/woke culture" (which is also not a thing that exists). Best!

This review is an excellent reason why many average movie goers do not read reviews. While the review is accurate and really cannot be argued with on some/many of it's points and comparisons, THAT is the problem. All comparisons are with the BEST points of other works. When ALL you do is point out how something fails in regard to how something else excels, you are not really doing a review, you are doing a comparison. Average movie goers have gone to this movie and many others like it, and walked away feeling quite entertained, especially those who have not acquainted themselves with the other entertainment choices the reviewer uses to bash it, including the apples to oranges comparison with it's videogame source. Many media products that are inferior imitations of earlier works go on to become popular. There is a real fear on the part of earlier works' fans that the imitations will supplant the originals in popularity ruining what was so extra-special about the originals and dooming the franchise to mediocrity. Unfortunately, this has turned out to be true for many works, Transformers, Star Trek, Star Wars, Ghost Busters, Terminator, etc. Many long-time fans of these series have had to watch what to them is art, turned into garbage that barely resembles the originals. So, reviewers that don't let movies or other entertainment stand on its own merits, out themselves for being jaded. But they can almost be forgiven, considering the damage done to so many excellent entertainment works/franchises/series in recent years. Woke/cancel culture is particularly destructive, and has claimed the most casualties.
