John likes the funny jokes, but is hyper aware of bringing Gex back into the universe, this week on Chooch! Among Us has been patched, the new Hyrule Warriors is looking rough, I’m not quite sure what a Meatpunk is, the crew’s #TalkingBusiness, and Mario probably smokes.

Solon’s feeling dangerous, John’s ready to harmonize, and Spencer has some ominous news on deck! Disc Creatures is a really bad Pokemon knock-off, phones are bullshit, Solon is drowning in shovelware, the Analogue Pocket looks amazing, and Skull finally drags us through the Final Fantasy Hour. Solon really cares about the PS5, John fears giants, Stadia seems really poorly thought-out, Harada hates Smash and Solon butchers the French language.

The Pokemon Sword and Shield direct has just concluded, and boy, have things become bulbous.

This time around, Sword and Shield‘s main gimmick is “Dynamaxing,” the ability to make your Pokemon grow kaiju-size for three turns and boost their power. Your opponents can do the same, but only once per battle, so you’ll have to either get in front of your opponent’s use of it, time it just right, or ride theirs out and then sweep your opponent afterwards.

Between cities and smaller routes are a new form of routes called “wild areas.” These zones will have Pokemon wandering around freely like in Let’s Go!, and you can fully control the camera there. Different Pokemon will appear based on the time of day and the weather, and you can also find holes that you can jump into for co-op raid battles against Dynamaxed Pokemon.

Gym battles are more dynamic, being broadcast in-universe on television and being held in stadiums. The first gym leader was also revealed, Milo, a scary muscle baby man with no nose.

Other people were introduced, such as the champion Leon, your rival Hop (HIS NAME IS HOP WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU GAME FREAK,) and the Professor, Magnolia, alongside her granddaughter and assistant Sonia.

Finally, new Pokemon were revealed. A sheep Pokemon named Wooloo, a snapping turtle called Dreadnaw, a raven called Corviknight, and a flower called Gossifer that evolves into a seeding Pokemon named Eldegoss.

Lastly, two wolves called Zacian and Zamazenta, the titular “sword” and “shield” respectively, were shown. They’re the cover legendaries, and their reveal came with the announcement that the games will launch November 15th worldwide.

During today’s Pokemon Direct, Game Freak announced the latest entries in the Pokemon franchise, Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. The titles will release later on in 2019 for the Switch, and will be directed by Shigeru Ohmori, the director of Sun and Moon.

Sword and Shield take place in the Galer region, a European-inspired Pokemon region, specifically Britain seemingly. Three starter Pokemon were shown off: Grookey, a grass monkey, Scorbunny, a fire rabbit, and Sobble, a water lizard.

Other things shown in the trailer include London-inspired architecture, wild Pokemon battles more like previous games and less like Let’s Go!, and what seems like a Futbol game?

Anyway I’m excited because it’s the Sun and Moon director! We’ll absolutely see more of this game in the coming months, and more Pokemon releases have been teased for the rest of the year (most likely merchandise, but you never know!). If you want to watch the full seven minute Direct, here it is.
