Fallout 76 update. Set in Appalachia. Big new map expansion. Includes Vault 63. Skyline Valley’s the name of the place. You can also play as a ghoul in 2025. Skyline Valley is dropping on Wednesday.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from Sandfall Interactive. Turn based RPG about a group of people trying to stop a sorceress who kills everyone after every year. 2025.

South of Midnight. Compulsion Games. Animated like Spider-verse, but it doesn’t work as well in a game. 2025.

World of Warcraft expansion. Very introspective trailer. The War Within. August 26th 2024.

Metal Gear Solid Delta. David Hayter’s doing Snake’s voice here. There’s mud disguises, which is new.

Sea of Thieves will now let you be evil, have a stronger warship, have skeletons on your team. Season 13, July 25th.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn. Releasing July 18th 2024. Souls-lite with a little critter companion.

Age of Mythology: Retold. September 4th 2024.

Perfect Dark from The Initiative. Joanna’s got detective abilities. You can scan people’s voice and information. Does look pretty slick, but where’s the alien… No release date, but it’ll be on Game Pass.

Diablo IV update, Vessel of Hatred. October 8th. Very messed up evil trailer.

Fable from Playground Games. Shows some gameplay! Looks pretty fun. 2025.

Fragpunk, 5v5 hero shooter where you can pop effects to change the game as you go.

Pine Creek Games with a mouse. Survival, crafting, rebuild the mouse society. Winter Burrow. Early 2025.

Annapurna Interactive game, developed by Beethoven and Dinosaur, the people who made Artful Escape. They got a bunch of 80’s and 90’s music. Mixtape, due out in 2025.

Microsoft Flight Sim update, commercial flight modes added, do a variety of careers like agricultural, search and rescue, and more. Hot air balloons as well. November 19th 2024.

Elder Scrolls Online. Ten year anniversary celebration. All DLC free for a limited time, new expansion Gold Road June 18th.

Life is Strange new entry. Dimension hopping. Made by Deck Nine. Starring Max from the first one. Double Exposure coming October 29th.

Indiana Jones from MachineGames. It looks exactly what you’d expect. Fist fighting, world traversing, historical mystery, Nazi killing. Fun chase scene. Nailed the vibe! 2024.

Mech battle game, very fast and action packed. Macross style transforming. Mecha Break. 2025.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers from 505 Games, Soulslike game, very slick. 2025.

Obsidian game, Avowed. It’s a first person fantasy game! It’s what you want! 2024.

Atomfall from Rebellion. European village with evil experiments happening under it. 2025.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows, cool ninja lady and Yasuke! Looks pretty slick for Assassin’s Creed. November 12th.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl. September 5th.

New all digital Series X, and it’s white. Out this holiday.

Gears of War E-Day. Prequel based on when the Locust first attacked. No release date.

There’s a Call of Duty Direct after but I am not watching it.

The sleepyheads get all tuckered out talkin’ Decarnation, Oblivion (as a pre-cursor to Starfield), all the hot news out of Gamescom, new Pokémon dropped, Denuvo on the Nintendo Switch, the Playstation Portal, Charles Martinet taking up the mantle of Mario Ambassador, Bioware’s bizarre firings, and The Gamer’s Pledge.

A new Killing Floor game was announced. Not much else was detailed.

Even more Tekken 8 reveals, including a variety of characters, confirmation of a story mode, and a new battle hub similar to Street Fighter VI‘s. Tekken 8 launches January 26th, 2024.

Zack Snyder showed up! He’s got a new movie (or movies?) releasing on Netflix soon called Rebel Moon, and there’ll also be a game based on it.

Pearl Abyss’ latest title, the massive Crimson Desert, has a new gameplay trailer. It’s…a lot.

The Little Nightmares series will receive a new entry, this time with co-op.

Age of Empires 4 has gotten a remaster, and released right then and there!

Zenless Zone Zero, the next Hoyoverse gacha, looks really slick. Also, Honkai Star Rail‘s PS5 version’s test started August 23rd and runs through the 28th.

We’ve got more Alan Wake 2 footage. That’s all I gotta say, check it out instead of reading this!

Mortal Kombat 1 showed off a few more characters, this time highlighting General Shao, Sindel, and Raiden.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage got a new trailer.

Nightingale, a survival game with some really freaky monsters, got its early access launch set to February 22nd, 2024.

It’s not just Gamescom this week

Charles Martinet, the longtime official voice of Mario, is stepping down from the role. He will continue to be a “Mario Ambassador”, but it has already been confirmed that Super Mario Wonder will not feature his performance.

A new Pokemon, Poltchageist, has been revealed. This ‘mon is a convergent evolution of Sinistea, and has the ability to heal its doubles partner on switch-in.

That awful-looking Playstation streaming handheld has a name. It’s Playstation Portal, and will cost $200.

Bioware has fired 50 people, including many of their long-time writing staff who were working on the latest Dragon Age. Some of those laid off also include staff from Keywords, who had just recently unionized.

Denuvo has announced their technology will be compatible with Nintendo Switch, promising to block PC emulation. This announcement was paired with AI art, which is quite ironic indeed.

The conceit of Anthem’s world is that the world was once very actively managed by godlike entities, who eventually just up and left. For the people left behind in the now abandoned world, they were left to fight over the tools left behind by these gods, and the creatures those tools created. Bioware said their hopes with this conceit are to create a lot of inventive scenarios where entire environments can change, and that would certainly be interesting to see.

I’m not quite sure I have the highest hopes in the world for Anthem, considering both Bioware’s recent pedigree as well as the quality of many “Games as a service” titles of late, but I can’t deny that the concept is an intriguing one. It was also nice to see, although we’ll see if they stick to it, that the developers swore there would be “no lootboxes or gameplay advantage micotransactions,” which a promise even competitors like Destiny have failed to offer.

We’ll get to see more about what Anthem really is, and whether or not it’ll end up really setting the world on fire when it launches on PC, PS4. and Xbox One on February 22, 2019.

Looking an awful lot like Destiny, Anthem is focused on exploring “beyond the wall” where the wilderness is dangerous to go alone. You’ll slide into your exosuit, just like an Iron Man, which will represent the class or style you play as. The game is clearly focused on exploring the world with friends; with each of you taking up a different class, and mowing down enemies cooperatively. Anthem does seem more filled out and a bit more story focused than Destiny, but the influence is still undeniably there.

Anthem is slated to release in 2018.

Anthem is Bioware’s new IP, built in part by EA’s SEED division, and made specifically on the newest Scorpio dev kits. While not much is known about the ins and outs of the game, we can see a pretty gruff space person is ready to go out there and do some stuff in space which, hey, good video games are often about that kind of thing.

There will be a full gameplay reveal for Anthem tomorrow at the Xbox E3 live event, where we’ll hopefully get a better idea of just how Destiny-like or un-like this new IP will be.
