Adam Boyes surprised everyone a few weeks back when he announced he was stepping down as head of Sony’s third party publishing division, but seeing where he’s gone now, it makes quite a bit of sense.

Replacing CEO Dave Lang, Boyes will be the new man in charge for Chicago indie studio Iron Galaxy. The studio has built a reputation as primarily working on other studios’ games, like the well-received Killer Instinct, or the ill-fated Arkham City PC port last year.

Former CEO Dave Lang will remain in a new “Founder” position, where he will continue to oversee all business plans and game prototypes for the company.

My new title at @IToTheG is Founder & C3PO. My primary function is protocol, but I’m also fluent in over 10,000 dialects including Bacchi.

— Dave Lang (@JosephJBroni) July 26, 2016

Boyes has had a great history with Sony over the past four years, creating new relationships with plenty of names both big and small for the company.

We’ll look forward to seeing what New™ Iron Galaxy has up their sleeve for the future.

John’s back, and he’s brought Michael, Ryan, and new hire Rose to with him! The gang talks renting games in 2016, Michael talks shit about Boston (and New England as whole) and Ryan gets artsy. Michael found Dory, we get Doomed and John goes wild with Pokemon. The new releases segment has somehow been deemed necessary in the year of our lord 2016 and lasts for like twenty fucking minutes, Evolve’s going F2P, Overwatch gets a new character, Ubisoft are still battling Vivendi, Adam Boyes leaves Sony, and CS:GO gambling is… a train wreck. John gets one back on Mike Cosimano, we get buyer’s remorse, give the Pope some video games, and Michael reminds us approximately five million times that he doesn’t like anime.

A major face of Playstation's 3rd party relations is leaving.

After over four years working for Sony Playstation, leading third party development, Adam Boyes is leaving to come back to game development.

After an incredible journey here at PlayStation, I’ve made the very hard decision to return to the world of game development!

— Adam Boyes (@amboyes) July 8, 2016

Boyes started at Midway, before moving around between EA and Beefy Media before finally landing at Sony. While there, Boyes helped lead the charge presenting the PS4 as the place to play independent and third party games.

Hopefully the tradition of having a strong indie and third party on PS4 continues and Boyes finds another place where he can be happy and grow. We wish him the best!
