Yesterday, Epic Games released a statement that their MOBA game, Paragon, will be shutting down. The news comes off unsurprising due to Fortnite’s quickly rising popularity alongside Paragon’s dwindling player population. Epic Games explains that the game’s “matchmaking times and quality will only further degrade” and will officially shut the doors on it on April 26. As a consolation, they will be issuing refunds to every player for all of their purchases.
“To try to make this right, Epic is offering a full refund to every Paragon player for every purchase on any platform. This refund will come directly from Epic rather than your platform provider.”
It was only last week that Epic Games’ discussed their hopes to achieve success with Paragon, but it’s clear that much of their hard work and attention will instead be turned toward nurturing the growth of Fortnite from this point forward.
Paragon first came into the world as an early access Playstation 4 and PC release March 2016. At one point, the game proved to be pretty successful with a population of over 7 million players. Unfortunately, those numbers drastically fell as the game grew older and could no longer hold a flame to Fortnite’s total player count of 45 million.
