Three years since the release of Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition and seventeen years since the original Baldur’s Gate and we’re about to get an expansion pack. The add on to the Enhanced Edition, called Siege of Dragonspear, will be coming “soon” according the developer Beamdog. Beamdog were the people behind the celebrated Enhanced Edition so it seems like this expansion is in good hands at least. No word on an exact release date but it will come to PC, Mac, and Linux at first with it eventually reaching the iOS and Android editions later on this year. This expansion will also bridge the stories between the original Baldur’s Gate and it’s sequel.

For the uninitiated, the Baldur’s Gate franchise is set within the Dungeons and Dragons universe and is rightly considered one of the best RPGs of all time. The mechanics of controlling a diverse party and pausing the action to queue up movement, attacks, and spells filtered down into more modern games like KOTOR, Dragon Age and Mass Effect. This may be the perfect time to jump into the Baldur’s Gate universe in preparation for the new expansion.
